The 2026 Billboard Latin Music Awards are set to spotlight the enduring legacy of Cristian Castro, who will be presented with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. This honor recognizes Castro’s extensive contributions to Latin music over more than 30 years, cementing his status as one of the genre's most influential figures.

Scheduled for October 22, 2026, the ceremony will take place at Miami’s James L. Knight Center and will be broadcast live on Telemundo and Peacock. Castro will not only accept the award but also deliver a special performance, underscoring his ongoing relevance and connection with audiences.

The Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award is reserved for artists whose careers have significantly expanded the reach and impact of Latin music globally. Recipients are celebrated not only for their artistic achievements but also for their lasting influence and continued presence in the industry. Past honorees have included legendary names such as Carlos Santana, José José, and Maná, situating Castro among this distinguished group.

Cristian Castro’s journey in the music industry began in the early 1990s with his debut single “No Podrás,” which quickly made an impact by reaching the top three on the Hot Latin Songs chart. His first album, Agua Nueva, followed suit by climbing to number two on the Top Latin Pop Albums chart. Over the years, Castro has amassed six number-one hits on Hot Latin Songs, with notable tracks like “Nunca Voy a Olvidarte,” “Amor,” and “Azul” enjoying extended stays at the top.

Beyond his original work, Castro has also paid homage to Latin music heritage, most notably with his 2011 tribute album Viva El Príncipe, dedicated to Mexican legend José José. This project dominated the Top Latin Albums chart for seven weeks, reaffirming Castro’s ability to resonate with fans across generations.

Having sold over 12 million records worldwide, Castro continues to captivate audiences through his Nada Solo Éxitos Tour. His performances at major venues such as Mexico City’s Auditorio Nacional and New York’s Madison Square Garden demonstrate his sustained appeal and the deep connection he maintains with his fanbase.

The 2026 Billboard Latin Music Awards will also highlight other luminaries in Latin music. Rubén Blades is set to receive the Billboard Icon Award, Rosalía will be inducted into the Billboard Hall of Fame, and Fuerza Regida will be honored with the Billboard Vanguard Award. The ceremony’s lineup includes a broad array of prominent artists, ensuring a dynamic celebration of Latin music's diversity and vitality.

The event aligns with Billboard Latin Music Week, returning to Miami Beach from October 19 to 22, featuring a robust roster of artists and industry events. With Peso Pluma leading finalists with 17 nominations, the awards promise to showcase both established stars and emerging talent, reflecting the vibrant landscape of Latin music today.
