Cristian Castro acepta el Premio Billboard Trayectoria Artística ‘en nombre del amor romántico’

At the 2026 Billboard Latin Music Awards held at Miami’s James L. Knight Center, Mexican singer Cristian Castro was presented with the prestigious Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his significant contributions to Latin music over more than three decades. The ceremony, broadcast live by Telemundo and Peacock, highlighted Castro’s enduring legacy and continued relevance in the genre.

Cristian Castro’s career began to make an impact on the Billboard charts in the early 1990s, with his breakthrough single "No podrás" entering the Hot Latin Songs chart in 1992 and peaking at number three. His debut album, Agua Nueva, further established his presence by reaching number two on the Top Latin Pop Albums chart in early 1993. Since then, Castro has amassed six number-one hits on the Hot Latin Songs list, including enduring singles like "Nunca voy a olvidarte," "Amor," and "Azul," which enjoyed extended runs at the top.

His artistic reach extends beyond pop, with the 2011 release Viva El Príncipe—a tribute album dedicated to José José—dominating the Top Latin Albums chart for seven weeks. This project reaffirmed Castro’s ability to honor Latin music traditions while maintaining contemporary appeal. Over his career, he has sold more than 12 million records and continues to engage audiences with his Nada Solo Éxitos tour, performing at prominent venues such as Mexico City’s Auditorio Nacional and New York’s Madison Square Garden.

During the award ceremony, Castro delivered an emotionally charged acceptance speech where he framed the honor as a tribute to romantic love and poetry, elements he credits as central to his artistic identity and inspiration. His reflections underscored how themes of love have consistently driven his music and personal ambition, shaping his creative journey.

The recognition of Cristian Castro with the Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award places him among a distinguished group of Latin music icons who have significantly shaped the global music landscape. Past recipients of this accolade include celebrated artists such as Andrea Bocelli, Armando Manzanero, Carlos Santana, José José, Maná, Marco Antonio Solís, Ricardo Arjona, and Roberto Carlos.

As part of the evening’s highlights, Castro collaborated on stage with the Mexican-American duo Ha*Ash to perform “Antes que te cases,” marking the live debut of this new collaboration. This moment illustrated his ongoing commitment to artistic evolution and partnership.

The 2026 Billboard Latin Music Awards also honored other luminaries, including Rubén Blades with the Billboard Icon Award, Rosalía who received the Hall of Fame Award, and Fuerza Regida, recognized with the Vanguard Award. Together, these acknowledgments celebrated both the heritage and future of Latin music.

Cristian Castro’s receipt of this lifetime achievement accolade is a testament to his profound influence on Latin pop and romantic balladry, genres that have been markedly shaped by his voice and songwriting. His sustained success and artistic contributions continue to resonate with audiences worldwide, affirming his status as a pillar of Latin music’s rich and evolving narrative.
