The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Soundtrack is Coming To Vinyl

In an exciting development for collectors and fans of video game music, Nintendo has collaborated with Laced Records to issue the official soundtrack of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on vinyl for the first time outside Japan. This release offers enthusiasts an opportunity to experience the acclaimed score in high-quality analog format, a format that has seen a resurgence among audiophiles and gamers alike.

The launch includes two distinct vinyl packages catering to different levels of collector interest. The standard edition is a double LP that highlights 34 key tracks from the game’s score, presented on heavyweight discs. This edition features both traditional black vinyl and a unique blue-and-white marbled variant. The selection of tracks is curated to showcase memorable compositions that players are likely to recognize, delivering a condensed yet immersive musical journey through Hyrule during its climactic final days.

For those seeking a comprehensive experience, Laced Records is also offering a deluxe limited edition set comprised of eight LPs. This extensive collection encompasses the full breadth of the game’s soundtrack, available in either classic black wax or an eye-catching blue-and-gold splatter design. Each disc in this expansive box set is thematically arranged to reflect different facets of gameplay, including exploration, combat, and the narrative’s pivotal moments.

Both editions come with meticulously designed packaging that features archival artwork created by the original Breath of the Wild art team. The standard double LP is housed in a widespined outer sleeve with printed inner sleeves, while the deluxe edition is encased in a rigid board dual slipcase, complete with spined inner sleeves that enhance durability and display appeal.

The soundtrack itself is notable for its innovative blend of musical styles, blending minimalist piano motifs with orchestral and choral arrangements to evoke the vast and mysterious world of Hyrule. The compositions explore a variety of sonic textures, from the ethereal themes associated with Sheikah technology to the tense, rhythmic pieces underscoring enemy encounters and the grandeur of Divine Beast battles.

Manaka Kataoka, Yasuaki Iwata, and Hajime Wakai crafted the score, employing a diverse range of instruments and stylistic approaches to complement the video game’s immersive storytelling. The music’s progression mirrors the player’s journey, from the serene opening notes to the stirring climaxes, providing an emotional backdrop to Link’s quest.

This vinyl release is scheduled for availability starting September 4, as indicated by details provided on the label’s website. While specific pricing and distribution channels remain to be fully detailed, the collaboration underscores an increasing appreciation for video game soundtracks as standalone works of art worthy of premium physical formats.

The Breath of the Wild soundtrack’s debut outside Japan on vinyl not only broadens access to this celebrated composition but also reflects a growing trend in the music industry where video game scores are gaining recognition and demand from collectors and fans worldwide. This release enables listeners to engage with the game’s musical environment in a tactile, high-fidelity format that complements the digital experience.

As video game music continues to rise in cultural significance, initiatives like this partnership between Nintendo and Laced Records highlight the evolving landscape of music consumption and the enduring appeal of physical media within niche communities. The Breath of the Wild vinyl sets promise to be coveted items for aficionados of both the game and vinyl collecting.
